Sleeping Beauty Awakened is a modern Sleeping Beauty–inspired editorial workshop designed to teach photographers how to blend structured modelling with candid awareness and conversation, led by Brush & Shutter’s very own Tayla McLean alongside the stunning Amelia Bloom.
Rather than chasing one “perfect” image, this workshop focuses on building strong pose foundations and then introducing movement, dialogue and micro-adjustments to capture the seconds around a moment — the breath before the laugh, the subtle shift of a hand, the blink that makes the frame feel alive.
Using a structured 3-zone shooting system, attendees won’t need to focus on composition or angles, but instead can direct their attention toward creating intentional dialogue with their model to produce authentic micro-moments captured through burst shooting. Participants will also be introduced to a range of unique equipment including drones, Meta glasses and gimbal use.
The goal is not perfection in-camera, but intentional coverage — giving you powerful editing choices built from real, connected moments.
The workshop begins with a live demo shoot exploring communication between photographer and model, before participants move into guided rotations that ensure continuous shooting time while applying modelling pose direction based on reference imagery, using dialogue to create moments and burst shooting to capture the seconds before, during and after — resulting in a wider range of usable images in post-production.
The session will be led by Amelia Bloom (Model) and Tayla McLean (Photographer) and held at H86 Studios in Brisbane City.
This is a 2-hour editorial-style workshop focused on demonstrating model dialogue, micro-direction, and burst shooting techniques. Rather than chasing one “perfect” image, the session teaches photographers how to recognise and capture the small transitional moments that happen between poses — the subtle movements, expressions, and shifts that make images feel natural and alive.
Attendees will learn how intentional conversation and direction with a model can create authentic moments worth capturing.
